Stoichiometry studies amounts of substances involved in chemical reactions.
The mole box
The Mole Box makes stoichiometry easy and simple!
It is a break down of the operations that allow you to switch between grams of one substance, moles of it, then to moles of another and grams of another.
To use the mole box, you should understand dimensional analysis.
If you don't, refer to our page on that subject!
First, we must begin with a balanced chemical equation.
If you don't know how to balance a chemical equation, refer to our page on that subject!
From the balanced chemical equation, the BCE for short, we can find the MR: the mole ratio.
Once we have this, we can solve 1 step problems! see notes for an example
If we want to solve 2, or 3 step problems, we'll need the molar mass of substance A, and the molar mass of substance B. For elements, we simply use the atomic mass as the molar mass. For molecules, we add the atomic masses of each atom.

This is a revised, more advanced Mole Box, which now involves concentration. But don't freak out!
